Mixing

Your song will light up if mixed right!

We will withdraw all the best parts of your song and hit the listener in the face with a fresh new mix!

Perfect your sound @ Unit Studios

The mixing process can transform unexciting and sonically flat music to an invigorating and dynamic piece of professional work. The importance of a well balanced mix cannot be understated, as it will change the public's perspective on the music itself.

We believe that the correct amount of time should be allocated to this vital part of the recording process, so we also offer a separate mixing service.

Unit Studios, a comfortable recording studio giving you a cutting edge sound

The mixing proces will maximise the meaning of your songs!

The engineers at Unit Studios can strip apart pre-recorded tracks and build from the bottom up to ensure each element has been placed correctly and blends perfectly with the other instruments in the song. We carefully use balance, EQ, reverb, panning, compression, sound replacement, transparent vocal tuning, editing and production. Our Acoustically treated mixing room has a great frequency response compared to your home studio, which is a big reason to come to us. We also use some outboard analogue processors to bring life to the sound, and send sound back through amplifiers for added realism and harmonics.

Clients are required to bring the tracks to our studio in split audio files (stems). Each stem should begin at the start of your song (bar 1, beat 1) and end on the last note or beat of that sound. That way, when we load up the separate files, set the session to your tempo and mix away!

A closer look at creating stems

When preparing your music to bring to us, there are a few guidelines that will help the transportation of your tracks become an effortless process, allowing us to use the time for mixing, not file handling.

Take a moment at home to prepare the tracks in your sequencer, so they will be ready for the session.

  • When Exporting each track as an audio file, make sure that the start point of ALL FILES are at bar 1, beat 1.
  • Label the tracks clearly when exporting: 'Piano Chorus Dry.wav' or 'Guitar middle 8 room mic.wav'
  • If you decide to keep effects on a part, export a wet version AND a dry version and if possible, also the wet effect itself.
  • Check the sample rate & bit depth of your files. Make a note of this.
  • Bring on a hard drive, and also a backup on DVD
