The game designer at Hand Circus created a brief which contained reference tracks for the creative team to use as inspiration for initial ideas.
The composition team used authentic instruments to create a palette of African sounds. When the parts were recorded, they were left as they are, no editing was done to the sounds. This gave the sound a natural, imperfect & 'played' feel.
All of the character voices have been created under the direction of Andy our in-house producer. He guided the voice artists to evoke the right emotions from their adaptations of a mixture of African languages.
Every single moment in the game has to have a sound to match, which provides a certain personality to the game. The atmosphere of fun and playfulness was reached by using musical sound effects.
London based Hand Circus enrolled Resonate Music to take on the task of creating a custom African game soundtrack, in-game SFX as well as character voices. Unit Studios have a close working relationship with Resonate Music, so had a large involvement in the creative processes.
